Ind. loc.: "Süd-Serbien: Sićeva bei Gramadi und Pleša, auf dem Berge Visa ober dem Kloster Sv. Bogoredice (Petrović!)" (sec. Beck, 1890: 215) [see Sićevo / Сићево, Nišava District, Serbia in GeoNames and Wikipedia (accessed 16 May 2009)]. Host: Parasitic only on Artemisia alba Turra (= Artemisiae camphoratae L. [see Tela Botanica, accessed 16 May 2009]), Compositae (cf. Annotated Checklist of Host Plants of Orobanchaceae, accessed 24 August 2009). "Planta nutriens. Radices Artemisiae camphoratae L. accupantem observavi" (sec. Beck, 1890: 215). Comments: The original recollections from S. Petrovic are not in Serbia, neither in BEOU nor in BEO [O. Vasic (Head Curator), pers. comm. 2007]. According to Beck (1930: 165), Orobanche serbica [= O. ozanonis!] would be "Proxima O. alba [Grex Glandulosae]", but its floral morphology ("without red glandular hairs" [sec. M. Niketić, pers. comm. 2007 and locotypic photos]) is closer to O. minor aggr.; for this reason, from our point of view, it is more suitable to place it inside the Grex Minores Beck (1882) [cf. Documentos Jard. Bot. Atlántico (Gijón) 6: 115-116 (2008)]. In addition, we can say that Beck 1890 and 1930 had already placed O. ozanonis (conspecific with O. serbica) in this group (Beck was mistaken to consider them to be two different species, because he could probably only see dry material). "Floraison exceptionnelle d'O. ozanonis cette année à La Grave, plusieurs centaines d'exemplaires dont certains atteignant 30 cm" (cf. J.M. Tison, pers. comm. 12 July 2007). Ic.: a, Beck in Biblioth. Bot.19: t.4 f. 65 (1890); b, habit, inflorescences, flowers [vicinity of Niš, Sićevačka Klisura gorge, near monastery St. Petka (loc. class.), Serbia; parasitic on Artemisia alba Turra (Compositae)]; c, inflorescences (sub Orobanche artemisiae-campestris sensu Carlón & al. (2002) [Villaescusa de Ebro, Spain; parasitic on Artemisia alba]); d, flowers (ib.); e, O. Ozanonis F.Sz. (1859) hb. norm. 924 (type); f, inflorescences (sub O. ozanonis [Les Fréaux, near La Grave (loc. class.), France; parasitic on Artemisia alba ]); g, sheet (ib.); h, flower (ib.); i, bract, calyx-segments and corolla (ib.); j, flower, in partial long-section (ib.); k, pistil (ib.); l, stigma (ib.); m, anthers (ib.); n, Beck, Biblioth. Bot.19 t. 4 f. 81 [sub O. "Ozanonis"] (1890). Distribution: European distribution, European distribution (Orobanche grenieri, lycoctoni and serbica), Iberian Peninsula distribution. |
