Host: usually on Picris hieracioides L. (cf. Thorogood & Hiscock, 2010), rarely on Pilosella officinarum Vaill. [f. Vaucher, 1827: 64, "Apennins (Italy)"; Rumsey & Jury, 1991: 268, "St Margarets, Kent" (Southeast England)], Compositae [Asteraceae] (cf. Annotated Checklist of Host Plants of Orobanchaceae, accessed 24 August 2009).

Comments: There seems to be much confusion about this species and its allies. It is close to Orobanche minor Sm. (cf. Rumsey & Jury, 1991: 268) and relativly close to Orobanche artemisiae-campestris Vaucher ex Gaudin, this last name has frequently been considered conspecific (e.g., Chater & Webb, 1972: 291; Foley, 2001: 58; Pujadas, 2002: 397). However, from our point of view, this species is quite unlike Orobanche santolinae Loscos & J. Pardo, contrary to what some authors seem to think (e.g., Greuter & al., 1989: 257; Foley, 2001: 58).
