Ind. loc.: "Sur Asperula hirsuta: Mazis, Mouzaïa (Clauson) [Mouzaïa, Algeria (GeoNames, accessed 29 Sept. 2008)]". Typus / Type: "Typus: Parasitic upon Asperula hirsuta at Maziz, Mouzaía [Algeria], 1858, leg. Clauson (MPU!)" (cf. Foley 1996: 323); see type (MPU004867) and syntype (MPU004868) of O. clausonis in Aluka, accessed 28 Sept. 2008). Designated by: M.J.Y. Foley in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 54: 323 (1996). Host: only on Rubiaceae species [e.g., Asperula hirsuta Desf. (cf. Pomel, 1874), Galium mollugo L., Galium verum L., Rubia peregrina L. (cf. Coutinho, 1913)] (cf. Annotated Checklist of Host Plants of Orobanchaceae, accessed 24 August 2009). Comments: Beck (1890, 1930) classified Orobanche clausonis Pomel as member of the "Tribus" [1890] / "Grex" [1930] Minores, but from our point of view, it seems to fit better in the Grex Galeatae. In addition, it should be noted that there appears to be no relevant differences between the African and European specimens of this species, but further studies are necessary. Orobanche subgen. Monoschiza Pomel in Bull. Soc. Sci. Phys. Algérie 11: 108 (1874) ["est caractérisé par la soudure des sépales..."].
