Host: mostly on Ulex species [e.g., Ulex baeticus Boiss., U. parviflorus Pourr. (= Ulex australis Welw. ex Webb)], Leguminosae [Fabaceae] (Annotated Checklist of Host Plants of Orobanchaceae, accessed Aug 2009).

"En ambos casos parasitan a Leguminosas fruticosas o sufruticosas pero la subsp. deludens parasita casi exclusivamente especies del género Ulex, rara vez Anthyllis o Dorycnium, en suelos basófilos..." Comments:

Phylogenetic observations: O. austrohispanica is provisionally considered as a valid species very closely allied to Orobanche gracilis Sm. (incl. O. tetuanensis), but perhaps it would be more appropriate to include it within O. gracilis. Still taxonomic status is not clear, e. g., today, we cannot find any significant difference, from a morphological point of view, between these two images (O. tetuanensis (K 00096690 - type) vs. O. austrohispanica [O. gracilis gr. (Pau 1924: 370-371, sub O. gracilis f. tetuanensis; Pujadas 2007: 206, sub O. gracilis var. deludens)]. It is uncertain and needs more research to determine its rank better.

Taxonomic observations: Foley 2001: 224-226; Román & al. 2003: 640 ["Phylogenetic relationships"]; Schneeweiss & al. 2004 ["Phylogenetic relationships"]; Carlón & al. 2005: 61 f. 4 ["Phylogenetic relationships"], 63 (AY209241, sub O. austrohispanica); Pujadas 2006: 210 "It is obviously morphologically close to O. variegata Wallr."; Carlón & al. 2008: 13 f. 2 ["Phylogenetic relationships" (AY209241, sub O. austrohispanica; EU655600 [herb. Sánchez Pedraja 12213], sub O. gracilis, s.l.)].

Chromosomatic number:
